Frontend Engineering Intern

Paystro is building the cross-border financial platform of choice for connecting Africa with the UK, Canada, Europe and other global markets. Today, thousands of migrants, families and businesses use Paystro to move money across borders, pay important bills directly, and access global currencies through our secure FX marketplace. As a Frontend Engineering Intern at Paystro, you will help build simple, responsive and reliable product experiences that make moving and managing money across borders easier for our customers. This is a paid internship within a lean Engineering team working across multiple countries, currencies and payment corridors. You will contribute to real web and mobile product work while learning how customer needs and product designs are translated into clear and reliable interfaces. Alongside contributing to real product work, you will receive hands-on mentorship from experienced technical leadership. This gives you a front-row view of how financial products are built, operated and scaled across multiple markets, while helping you develop the technical judgement and practical experience needed to build a strong engineering career. You will work on clearly defined tasks with guidance and code review. You will not be expected to deliver major features or resolve production issues independently.

You will contribute to customer and internal product experiences across Paystro’s web and mobile platforms, including onboarding, account management, money movement, bill payments, currency exchange, new products and internal operational tools. Your work may cover implementing product designs, building reusable components, connecting interfaces to APIs, improving accessibility and responsiveness, writing tests and documentation, and resolving user-facing issues. Assignments will follow Paystro’s roadmap and will be broken into clear, supported tasks suited to your level.

At Paystro, engineers build systems that move real money across currencies and markets. Security, accuracy and reliability therefore matter, and the effect of your work is visible in how customers send, receive and use money. We work closely, review one another’s code, discuss technical decisions openly and communicate blockers early. As an intern, you will contribute to clearly scoped parts of live products, with hands-on mentorship and support through planning, development, testing and release. We expect you to ask questions, be honest about what you do not know, take feedback seriously and become more independent as your skills develop. The goal is to help you build both the technical skills and practical judgement needed for a strong engineering career.
